Extremes

So, we went to KL last week, I worked all week teaching legal seminars to TI folks at the plant. I lost my voice, which after having 24 hours of classes and training 1200 people is probably understandable.

We then spent Saturday with our friends Mark, Ingela and their lovely kids Casper and Adam. But talk about a study in extremes. Jeff and I were a bit too warm in the guest room, the aircon had a tricky secret that we didn't discover so our room was a bit too hot. All things considered it was probably 24 degrees (which is 75 F). Oh what big old babies we are.

This is the living conditions of the workers that are doing construction near M&I house. They have no aircon, of that I am sure. They are forced to "shower" outside in a big communal area by pouring buckets of water over their heads and they are sleeping in dormitory type conditions in shipping containers that have been converted by adding a few windows and doors.

Really it was a matter of extremes. I need to be much better at accepting the gifts I have been given.

Back at it

I spent the last 7 days in KL doing trainings for work. While I love KL and love trainings, this round was exhausting. I find the more work I have the more vibrant and alive I feel, but the desire to retreat as soon as the rush is over is huge. I guess as much as I crave the simple retreat, I need to have the rush first to appreciate it. While in KL I had two massages at the Mandarin Oriental. Much needed stress relief. The best part of the massage is the total feeling of relaxation that I get while I lay on the table. Almost meditative. Finished off with a cup of ginger tea (some brewing now here at home....) ah, peace.

Today I took a walk, looked at the world I live it and while I was walking I came to the realization that it is time for me to take up a meditation practice. Any suggestions?

Yesterday

This is what I did yesterday.

Sit at the computer. All day. Pretty much what I do everyday.

Want to take a walk, think I am going to do that now.

Peace~

Daily Photos

365-21 Birthday

So the concept of 365 is not new, but this year I thought I would give it a shot. 365 days a photo a day. So far my subjects have not been very broad or diverse, but with the exception of two days, I have actually shot at least one picture. I am not sure what I will do with these pictures when everything is said and done, but it is a snapshot of my life. Daily life. Not sexy, not exciting just as it is.

Shots are all SOC and located at my flickr site here.

Wow

What a month. January is the business month for me. This is the time that I attend the Craft Hobby Assn. show in California to expand my business (Far Flung Craft) catch up with other industry friends and family that lives in California or makes the trek from Oregon.

this years show was much small and much quieter than past shows, but we still gained some good contacts, had some good orders placed and really overall made the decision for me that I am sticking with the business and will see it go forward for a while longer. While expanding a business in a recession or depression??? may be a tough thing, particulary if we go to one income in the near future, I can't help but think that those businesses that survive. Those that operate on a CASH basis (which we do) those that expand gradually, not too fast will be the ones that survive. Crafting, in particular has always grown during times of recession as people stay home and use what they have, but there is always a need for some new stuff... and I hope to provide it.

As for the simple life, well, I am getting back into the swing of things here, balancing life, social obligations, two kids-a dog- a husband and two jobs... it is all good and I am looking forward to a few more posts about things I care about and simplfying.

Peace!
